About this pack
This 27-page 5 W's pack teaches 1st to 3rd grade and ESL/EFL students what each question word asks for (who, what, where, when and why), then uses them to build sentences, answer questions about short stories and plan a story.
It starts with a picture guide to the five W's and moves through the skills in order. Two "Sort It" pages have students sort phrases such as "at the zoo", "last night" and "because I was cold" under the right question word. Two "Ask and Answer" pages match questions to answers and turn answers back into questions. Three "Build a Sentence" lessons put scrambled phrase tiles in order, adding one W at a time: who, what and where first ("My sister is reading in bed."), then when, then all five with a because clause.
Four reading pages each have one short original story with a full set of 5 W questions and a drawing box: The Windy Day, A Frog at School, A Cake for Grandma, and Sports Day Splash!, which is written like a school news report. Two check-ups review the skills, and Check-Up 2 adds a fifth story, The Shooting Star. The pack finishes with a Plan a Story page (one line per W, with ideas), a Write Your Story page with a self-check, a 5 W's word bank and a 2-page answer key.
The three Build a Sentence lessons and both story-writing pages come in two versions on the same layout. The S (Supported) page labels every tile with its W, adds a table of word choices and gives sentence starters; the I (Independent) page takes those away, and one answer key covers both. The teacher notes explain why learners from Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Spanish and Portuguese backgrounds often say "Where you live?" and suggest a "human sentence" game with five big W cards.
