Solar System Reading Comprehension Passages | The Sun and 8 Planets | 1st-2nd Grade Science Reading
Ribbit — ESL/EFL Worksheet Resource
These 9 solar system reading comprehension passages cover the Sun and each of the eight planets, with a short nonfiction text on the left of every page and four or five questions on the right. The passages are The Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Each one gives a few clear facts children can find again in the text: Mercury's days are hot and its nights very cold, Venus is the hottest planet because of its thick air, Jupiter's Great Red Spot is a storm, Uranus spins on its side, and Voyager 2 is the only spacecraft to have visited Uranus and Neptune. The questions mix short written answers with other formats: choosing the correct statements, marking a temperature on a number line, colouring Earth's water and land, circling a planet in a row of pictures, and drawing a picture from the information given. Several questions ask "why", so children have to explain as well as find the answer.
