About this pack
This 26-page parent communication kit gives K–5 teachers printable notes home, family forms, communication logs and parent-teacher conference forms written in simple English (around CEFR A1–A2) for families who are still learning the language.
Every family page uses short sentences, one idea per sentence and a small picture beside each key word, and ends with the same line telling families they can ask the school for someone who speaks their language. The pack is English only. The teacher notes explain why: machine translation is fine for a quick message, but anything about health, safety, meetings or progress should be checked by a person.
Two teacher guide pages come first. Guide 1 lists eight habits for working with families learning English, such as using an interpreter instead of the child and writing dates in words because 11/04 means different days in different countries, plus a four-step script for a phone call and a box for your school's interpreter details. Guide 2, "Say It Simply," swaps 18 school words for plain ones (permission slip becomes "form to sign," tardy becomes "late") and has a six-point checklist to run any note through before it goes home.
The family pages cover the whole year. Family 1 is a welcome letter with school times and a checklist of what to bring each day. Family 2–3 is a two-page questionnaire about the child's languages, earlier schooling, health, the family's preferred contact method and whether they want an interpreter. Notes 1–2 are 12 ready-made positive notes home (six to a page), Notes 3 has six blank good-news notes, and Notes 4–5 are eight quick notes for everyday things: please bring, no school, please sign, let's talk, today at school, class trip, homework and special day. Family 4 is a weekly behavior report with three faces for each day, Family 5–6 are weekly and monthly newsletter templates, and Family 7 is a "Helping at Home" handout with eight tips, starting with keeping the home language.
Three logs keep a private record: a family contact list (Log 1), a whole-class parent communication log (Log 2) and a one-page-per-family log (Log 3), all with an interpreter column. Six conference pages run from a two-per-page invitation through a schedule, a form families fill in beforehand, a teacher planning page and a notes page, to a thank-you letter that goes home with the agreed goals.
Perfect for
- ESL and classroom teachers with multilingual families
