Singular and Plural Nouns Worksheets | Plurals with -s, -es, -ies & Irregular Plurals | 1st-2nd Grade ESL
Ribbit — ESL/EFL Worksheet Resource
This 24-page singular and plural nouns pack for Grades 1–2 and ESL/EFL students teaches plurals one rule at a time: add -s, add -es after s, x, ch and sh, change y to ies, and then special plurals such as child → children, mouse → mice and sheep → sheep. There are 9 practice pages, and each one comes in two versions with the same layout. The Supported (S) page adds a word bank and sentence starters. The Independent (I) page swaps those for a short question and open lines. A code in the corner (1S, 1I, 2S…) shows which is which, so a whole class can work on the same page at two levels. Pages 1–4 teach one rule each, with a "Remember!" box, a write-the-plural task, a sentence to finish, and a small drawing task. Page 3 explains the y rule by the letter before the y: a vowel (toy, key, day) just takes -s, and a consonant (baby, city, fly) changes to -ies. Pages 5–9 mix the rules so students have to choose: -s or -es? Sort It, One or More? (circle the right word and mark S or P), Draw It, Fix It (correct mistakes like "I have two dog"), and a Plurals Check-Up for the end of the unit. A one-page teacher notes sheet explains the order of the rules and why many ESL learners leave off the plural -s. It also links the pack to CCSS L.1.1c and L.2.1b. Two word bank pages list the -s and -es plurals (Word Bank A) and the -ies and special plurals (Word Bank B). An answer key covers every page, with open-ended tasks marked "answers will vary".
