This 10-page pack asks 1st graders to find and underline the preposition in 78 short sentences, from "Sam sits on the bench." to "The big train goes through the dark tunnel." Page 1 opens with a short rule box: prepositions tell us where or when something happened, with three illustrated examples (in the box, behind the sofa, at the park) and a list of common prepositions: on, under, at, from, behind, in front of, into, off, above, near, by and with. It then has six practice sentences. Pages 2 to 10 each have eight more, with a black-and-white picture children can colour when they finish. The sentences mix place (under the bed, next to his mother), movement (across the road, into the pond, through the tunnel) and a few less common words such as along, around, between, after and onto. A handful of sentences have small slips in the original file, such as "A blue dolls sits in the box" and missing apostrophes in "Jacks shoes" and "Tims rabbit"; they can double as a quick proof-reading challenge.
