About this pack
This 24-page pack of plot diagram and story map graphic organizers for Grades 3–6 and ESL/EFL students has 8 organizers that work with any book, each printed in two versions: S (Supported), with sentence starters and word banks, and I (Independent), with a short question and open lines.
The 8 organizers are Plot Mountain (exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution), Beginning, Middle, End (with draw-it boxes), Story Map (characters, setting, problem, four events, solution), Conflict & Resolution (including character vs. character, nature, self or society), Character Change, Setting (with a five-senses section), Theme, and Compare Two Stories. The S and I versions share one layout, so a student can move from S to I one organizer at a time without anyone being handed an obviously easier sheet.
Before the organizers, a Story Words page teaches the five plot words with The Three Little Pigs as the example, and a Goldilocks practice page has students sort eight scrambled events onto a plot mountain and explain why one event is the climax. After them come a Plot Words Check-Up quiz, a Story Word Bank (order words, problem words, character words and theme topics), and an answer key with a model Goldilocks plot mountain. A teacher notes page explains why words like exposition and climax are hard for ESL learners, how to tell the conflict from the climax, and how to push students from a one-word topic to a full theme sentence. It lists CCSS RL.3.3, RL.4.3, RL.3.2, RL.4.2, RL.5.2, RL.5.3, RL.6.3, RL.3.9 and RL.5.9.
