Complete Sentence or Fragment Worksheets | 60 Sort the Sentence Tasks | 1st Grade Grammar
Ribbit — ESL/EFL Worksheet Resource
These 10 worksheets ask 1st graders to decide whether each group of words is a complete sentence or not, marking an O for a complete idea and an X for a fragment, with 60 items in all. Each page opens with the same short rule box: a sentence tells a complete idea, starts with a capital letter and ends with a full stop, question mark or exclamation mark. It shows "Tina swims" and "swims fast" crossed out as incomplete, and "Tina swims fast." as complete. The six items on each page follow a theme with a picture to colour: frogs, cats, sea life, bugs, a pond, vehicles, the classroom and spring flowers. Fragments are the kinds children really write, such as "soft and furry", "eats a bug", "lives in water" and "goes to school". They sit beside complete sentences like "The crab walks sideways." Children can also turn each fragment into a full sentence on the back.
