Proper Nouns Fill-in-the-Blank Worksheets | Places, People and Days with Capital Letters | 1st Grade Grammar
Ribbit — ESL/EFL Worksheet Resource
These 10 proper noun worksheets ask 1st graders to fill five sentence gaps per page with names from a word bank, then write each one with the capital letters it needs. The word banks are printed in lower case on purpose (sonya, eiffel tower, japan, paris, disney, cinderella), so children must fix the capitals as they copy each word into a sentence such as "We visited the ___ last summer." The proper nouns cover people, cities and countries (london, egypt, canada), landmarks (big ben, niagara falls), days of the week, shops and well-known characters (harry potter, ironman). Each word bank has more words than there are gaps. A reminder box on page 1 explains that special people, places and things are proper nouns, with two model sentences ("Tokyo Tower is in Japan.", "Jonas walks his dog, Bolt."). Several pages end with "Write your own sentence and draw it!" What's Included: • 10 printable worksheet pages • Lower-case proper noun word bank on each page • 5 fill-in sentences per page • Write-and-draw tasks Skills Practised: • Capitalising names, places, days and titles • Choosing a word that fits a sentence • Writing an original sentence with a proper noun Perfect for: • Common and proper noun units • ESL learners who forget capitals in names • Grammar centres and homework
