Combining Sentences Worksheets with Friendly Letters and Sentence Groups | 1st Grade Grammar
Ribbit — ESL/EFL Worksheet Resource
A 10-page combining sentences pack that goes beyond single pairs. On pages 1–5, students read a short friendly letter about a trip to the zoo, the park, the beach, a farm, or a museum, circle the sentences that can be joined, and rewrite two of them as one. Tim's zoo letter, for example, includes "The elephants were big. The giraffes were big." Pages 6–10 each hold 6 groups of three sentences, such as "Sam plays soccer. Jane plays soccer. They won the final!" Students underline the two that can be combined and rewrite the whole group. Because the third sentence has to stay as it is, children must decide which ideas really share a subject or an action. What's Included: • 10-page printable PDF • 5 friendly-letter pages • 5 pages of sentence groups (30 groups in all) Skills Practised: • Combining sentences with "and" • Spotting repeated subjects and actions • Editing sentences inside a longer text Perfect for: • 1st and 2nd grade, after an introduction to combining sentences • ESL/EFL writing practice • Writing centers
