The topics are a dog called Ben, a cat called Luna, Goldie the pet fish, riding a bike, the garden, school, lunch time, a rainy day, Halloween, and winter. The sentences are short, true-to-life lines such as "my dog is called ben", "i wear my raincoat", and "we throw snowballs", so students also practise capitalizing names and the word "I". Each page ends with a line for students to write a sentence of their own.
