What Do Animals Eat? Food Chain Worksheets | Herbivore, Carnivore, Omnivore | 1st Grade ESL Science
Ribbit — ESL/EFL Worksheet Resource
This 6-page science pack teaches 1st grade and ESL learners what animals eat and how a simple food chain works. Page 1 has children complete four definitions with a word bank: a carnivore eats meat, a herbivore only eats plants, an omnivore eats everything, an insectivore only eats insects. Page 2 is a large herbivore/omnivore/carnivore Venn diagram, and page 3 has 20 animal pictures, including a duck, a zebra, a shark, a lion and a giraffe, to colour, cut and paste into the right group. The food chain pages start with one example (a plant, an insect, a frog and a bird) for children to label, with a challenge question about what would happen without insects. Then children match animals to what they eat and see that an ocean food chain is different from a forest one. The last page asks them to draw a food chain for the ocean, the savannah and the forest.
