This 9-page short vowel set combines two sentence tasks on every page: unscramble three CVC sentences, then read two sentences that don't match their picture and rewrite them so they do. There is one page per word-family group: ab/ad/ag/am, an/ap/at, en/et/eg/ed, it/in/ig/id, ip/ix/ib/im, ob/ot/og, op/ox/od, ub/ug/um and un/ut/ud. The scrambled sentences use the page's word families ("Ben has ten pens.", "A dog is on a log.", "Did the bug rub the rug?"), and some are questions, so children have to think about where the question mark goes. In the fix-the-sentence half, a picture shows what is really happening, and the printed sentence gets it wrong. "A hen has a jet." sits beside a hen with a pen, and "The dog is cold." beside a dog sweating in the sun. Children rewrite the sentence to match the picture, which makes them read for meaning.
