About this pack

This 46-page morphology workbook teaches 3rd to 5th grade and ESL/EFL students 16 word parts: five prefixes (un-, re-, pre-, dis-, mis-), five suffixes (-ful, -less, -er/-est, -ly, -able) and six Latin and Greek roots (port, spect, rupt, struct, graph, dict).

Each of the 16 lessons comes as two worksheets on the same layout. The S (Supported) page gives a meaning bank, a word bank and a sentence starter; the I (Independent) page removes them, so students build each word from the base in brackets or from a first-letter clue. The answers are identical, so one answer key covers both and nobody is handed a visibly easier sheet. A typical prefix or suffix page has four tasks: build the word and say what it means (un + kind), split words into parts (unlock = un + lock), finish four sentences with the right word, and a short personal writing prompt. The root pages swap the last task for a "draw it" box, such as drawing a volcano when it erupts or your town in 100 years.

The pack opens with a Word Parts page that explains prefix, suffix, base word and root with a table and the word sum re + fill + able = refillable. Each section ends with a review page and a check-up. The prefix review asks "real prefix or not?" (uncle, ready, dish), the suffix review practices the spelling changes when a suffix is added and fixes sentences like "My dog is more bigger than your dog.", and the Big Check-Up mixes all three. Two word bank pages list example words for every part, and Word Bank B adds extra Greek and Latin parts (tele, photo, auto, bio, micro) with an invent-a-word task.

The two pages of teacher notes cover the spelling rules (misspell keeps both s's, -ful has one l, drop the e before a vowel suffix), why -er means "more" in one lesson and "a person who" in another, and cognate links for Spanish, Portuguese, French and Japanese speakers. They also map the pack to CCSS RF.3.3a–b, L.3.4b–c, L.4.4b and L.5.4b.
